Abstract
The Historical Association of Tanzania (HAT) is sailing through troubled waters. A very important subject association since the late 1960s and registered as NGO on 13th May 1999 with number SO 9865, HAT was served with a notice of deregistration effective from May 15, 2015.178 This was indeed a painful turn of event, not only to the HAT members but also history teachers and professionals in Tanzania. This is a subject that is widely read and is indeed the heart of social sciences and humanities as well as promoter of national heritage and patriotism. The association has been very vibrant and prolific publisher and disseminator of historical knowledge in Tanzania, Africa and in the world.
