Umma: The Journal of Contemporary Literature and Creative Arts is a Senate-approved bi-annual publication jointly run by the departments of Literature, and Creative Arts in the College of Humanities of the University of Dar es Salaam. The journal has DOI and has indexing licence with EBSCO. The main objective of the  journal is to stimulate and encourage debate on key themes in Literature and the Creative  Arts. Two years after the establishment of the Department of Literature in 1964 as part of the University of East Africa, a journal/magazine known as Darlite started in 1966 primarily as a students’ literary magazine. In 1970, its name changed to Umma: A Magazine for Original Writing, which has since been superseded by the present name. The revival of Umma under the twin departments of Literature and Creative Arts is a continuation Umma Vol. 7, Issues No. 1 and 2 last produced in 1986 and got grounded because of the turmoil of the 1980s. Subsequent issues of Umma Vol. 8, Issue No. 1 and Vol. 9 Issue No. 1 have been published, with Vol. 9 Issue No. 2 in-press. We are now inviting papers for Vol 10, issues 1 and 2 for 2023 (June and December, respectively.
