CALL FOR PAPERS

Umma: The Journal of Contemporary Literature and Creative Arts is a Senate-approved bi-annual publication jointly run by the departments of Literature, and Creative Arts in the College of Humanities of the University of Dar es Salaam. The journal has DOI and has indexing licence with EBSCO. The main objective of the   journal is to stimulate and encourage debate on key themes in Literature and the Creative   Arts. Two years after the establishment of the Department of Literature in 1964 as part of the University of East Africa, a journal/magazine known as Darlite started in 1966 primarily as a students ' literary magazine. In 1970, its name changed to Umma: A Magazine for Original Writing, which has since been superseded by the present name. The revival of Umma under the twin departments of Literature and Creative Arts is a continuation Umma Vol. 7, Issues No. 1 and 2 last produced in 1986 and got grounded because of the turmoil of the 1980s. Subsequent issues of Umma Vol. 8, Issue No. 1 and Vol. 9 Issue No. 1 have been published, with Vol. 9 Issue No. 2 in-press. We are now inviting papers for Vol 10, issues 1 and 2 for 2023 (June and December, respectively.

Scholars and researchers are, therefore, invited to submit their unpublished original scholarly writing in English for consideration. All the submissions will be peer-reviewed and evaluated based on their originality and relevance to the journal contributions. The editor welcomes papers and reviews on diverse topics such as:

Violence, migration, and exile

Language and exile

Gender and sexuality

Autobiographical reflections on conflict

Dislocation and displacement genres and trends in narratives of conflict

Trends in narrative of conflict

Literatures on peace and conflict

Contemporary literature

Pageantry

Community cultural festivals

Studio recordings Exhibitions

Radio and TV shows

Music

Visual arts (painting, photography, sculpture, graphics,   etc.)

Ethnomusicology

Contemporary African/Tanzanian music

Film and music festivals (Sauti za Busara/Ziff/Fiesta)

Theatre and communication for development

Art and tourism

Design and painting

Documentary production

Film and theatre production design

Media and development

Social media

Fashion and galas

The article/paper should be submitted via the online submission platform at https://journals.udsm.ac.tz/index.php/umma, with a copy simultaneously sent via the following email to the Editor:  umma@udsm.ac.tz The editorial process will be undertaken using the UDSM journal system.

The paper/article should have no indication of the authorial details, which should   be placed on a separate piece of paper with the title of the paper/article. All the   images should have copyright permission.
