CFA for Umma Journal of Contemporary Literature and Creative
Umma Journal of Contemporary Literature and Creative Arts is a Senate-approved bi-annual publication jointly run by the departments of Literature and Creative Arts in the College of Humanities of the University of Dar es Salaam. The journal has a DOI and has an indexing license with EBSCO. The main objective of the journal is to stimulate and encourage debate on key themes in Literature and the Creative Arts. Two years after the establishment of the Department of Literature in 1964 as part of the University of East Africa, the journal Darlite was launched in 1966, primarily as a student literary publication. In 1970, its name was changed to Umma: A Magazine for Original Writing, which was later shortened to Umma. The revival of Umma under the twin departments of Literature and Creative Arts continues the series, which last appeared in Umma Vol. 7, Issues No. 1 and 2, produced in 1986 and grounded by the turmoil of the 1980s. We are now inviting papers for Vol. 13, issues 1 and 2, for 2026 (June and December, respectively).
